John Rowell’s Tips for Wildlife Photography
Wildlife photography requires many of the same skills as hunting. Doing it well takes patience, stealth, good timing, and a bit of luck. I always bring a camera along with me when I go to a cottage, head out hunting, or canoe into a provincial park to camp.
I generally rely on luck. I’m not a great photographer (or even a good one), but my friend John Rowell is very good indeed. John is a Paris-based photographer and filmmaker, who formerly lived in India. His beautiful wildlife photography has appeared in a number of magazines. One of his most important pieces of advice is to understand the habits and behaviour of the animals you photograph. That is, to know and respect them. This is equally true for hunters.
